Carsten Schemberg as laudator at Ökoprofit Energie Ostfriesland

Climate protection is a global task and perhaps the biggest challenge humanity is facing today. Global solutions have their origins in the local regions, because global means the global networking of the local regions. In this sense, 11 companies from Leer and Emden have networked to deal with climate change with actions and not just with words. The participants of the network have impressively shown that economy and ecology must not be a contradiction. Energy efficiency is not only measured by the contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Any unused kilowatt hour lowers the energy costs and makes companies more competitive. All companies together have already implemented 31 measures, saving around € 2.4 million in energy costs over the entire life cycle. Further 47 measures are planned, which will once again result in an energy cost reduction of around € 8 million.

The award for the Ökoprofit operation in 2019 was given by: Aktiengesellschaft "EMS", Anker Schiffahrts-Gesellschaft mbH, CB Energie GmbH, Friesentherme Emden, LB Leeraner Badbetriebs GmbH, Lebenshilfe Leer eV, multi-West GmbH, Sandersfeld Sicherheitstechnik GmbH, Sparkasse Emden, Stadtwerke Emden GmbH, Stadtwerke Leer AöR.

After welcoming the participants by the hosts - the Kunsthalle Emden and the AG EMS - the companies were welcomed by the four-member jury, consisting of the mayoress of the city of Leer Mrs. Beatrix Kuhl, the Lord Mayor of the city of Emden Mr. Bernd Bornemann, Deputy Managing Director of the IHK for Ostfriesland and Papenburg Jan Amelsbarg and the President of the Hochschule Emden / Leer Gerhard Kreutz. "With regard to climate protection, a change in thinking is necessary. The participants are thus to be regarded as a role model for the region ", praised Ms. Kuhl. Mr. Bornemann referred to the finite resources and congratulated the company also with a view to the future generations to their commitment to climate protection. The jury also praised the network's work: "The energy transition needs positive, encouraging communication as well as an open and honest dialogue", emphasized Dr. med. Jan Amelsbarg.

In addition to the ceremonial award ceremony, Carsten Schemberg, as an "eco-profit veteran", gave an outlook on how the continuous work on resource efficiency pays off over the years. Since 2008, Ökoprofit has been successfully implemented in its company, Theodor Schemberg Einrichtungen GmbH. "Saving energy is the right thing! It's good for the environment.”

As a successful completion of the first round of Ökoprofit Energie Ostfriesland, AG EMS invited to a sunny ride on the canals around the Kunsthalle.
